Avery Kulzer
It was late Friday afternoon in mid October and I was hanging out with a
group of neighborhood friends. We were becoming bored and wanted to do
something fun. After pondering if we should do something funny like ding-dong
ditch the old people across the street or something dumb along those lines, we
decided to stick to the basics and just play a good game of manhunt. We chose
teams and quickly scattered off into the woods in the back of the neighborhood. I
decided to team up with my friend Lindsey and hide with her because I was too
scared to hide by myself in the woods while it was getting dark. We found the
perfect hiding spot right behind a stack of logs that someone must have chopped
down and thrown together in a big pile.
We were waiting there for about five minutes, seeing if a sign of the people
searching for us would appear. We decided we were bored of sitting behind a stack
of logs so we took off looking for a new spot As we were looking for somewhere else
to hide, the other team heard our footsteps crunching in the leaves lying on the
ground and soon began to chase us. We were running a fast as we could until my
friend Lindsey and I suddenly tripped over something hard and fell onto the grass.
We turned towards what had tripped us, and to our surprise it was a big black
suitcase. We were a little scared to go near it, but then the other team caught up to
us and we showed them our findings.
They encouraged us to open the suitcase, and egged us on until we actually
did. As we were unzipping it the suspense was building up. It finally flew open and
we were shocked at what we saw. The suitcase was filled to the brim with wads of
cash and nothing else. The stacks each had $1,000 in them, so we could only
imagine what we could do with the millions of dollars in our possession. After
thinking long and hard about what we should do, we decided it would be best if we
just called the police when we got back towards the neighborhood, in case it was
a set-up.
We walked out of the woods with the suitcase rolling behind me, One of the
kids called 911 and told them about what we just discovered. The police came and
took the black bag of suspicion out of our possession, and while they did they made
sure to interrogate us until they knew every bit about this bag. I went home that
night empty handed and just as broke as I had been when the night started out. I’ll
always be curious about where that suitcase really came from and what the story
was to go along with it.
